We love attending Classical Conversations, but sometimes my daughter and I want to dig into the science topic a little deeper than the one sentence or list of words each week. I’ve searched for worksheets to fit our needs, but I couldn’t find ones that aligned perfectly with the wording found in our Foundations guide.

I decided to create my own, affordable worksheets to supplement the science sentences for Weeks 5 and 6 in Classical Conversations Cycle 1. Download your Science Worksheet Bundle today for only $5!

What’s included in the Classical Conversations Cycle 1, Weeks 5-6 Science Worksheet Bundle?

I found that although my daughter could memorize the major groups of invertebrates, she didn’t actually know what an arthropod or a stinging-cell animal was. So although she could recite the list of invertebrates, she had no idea what she was saying.

This $5 worksheet bundle contains 10 worksheets, making each worksheet only 50 cents each!

The worksheets come in color, but as you can see, they work great printed in black and white too!

The first eight worksheets highlight the Classical Conversation science sentence near the top of the page and then provide simple definitions of each group of animals with a short interactive activity like fill in the blank, labeling, and matching.

In the last two worksheets, the child reviews the science sentences by categorizing each group of animals as either an invertebrate or vertebrate.

Here’s the breakdown of what’s included in this $5 bundle:

  1. Sponges and Stinging-cell Animals
  2. Flatworms, Roundworms, and Segmented Worms
  3. Mollusks and Sea Stars
  4. Arthropods
  5. Fish
  6. Amphibians and Reptiles
  7. Mammals
  8. Birds
  9. Invertebrates vs Vertebrates Cut and Paste
  10. Invertebrates vs Vertebrates Columns

How do I incorporate these into our Classical Conversations review at home?

Our main goal is to successfully memorize the new science facts presented in Foundations each week. Each day, we repeat the science sentence out loud together. With Weeks 5 and 6, we added motions to help us remember the different groups of animals.

I don’t assign these worksheets as homework; instead, we read and work through them together. The purpose isn’t to give my daughter busy work. My goal is to help deepen her knowledge and understanding of the topics presented at Classical Conversations

I use these worksheets to help connect her prior knowledge with the new grammar she’s memorizing in Foundations.

Here’s how I would incorporate these worksheets into our weekly schedule:

Week 5: Invertebrates

Day 1: New Grammar is presented by the tutor at community.

Day 2: Review the science fact orally and learn more about sponges and stinging cell animals.

Day 3: Review the science fact orally and learn more about flatworms, roundworms, and segmented worms.

Day 4: Review the science fact orally and learn more about mollusks and sea stars.

Day 5: Review the science fact orally and learn more about arthropods.

Week 6: Vertebrates

Day 1: New Grammar is presented by the tutor at community.

Day 2:  Review the science fact orally and learn more about fish.

Day 3:  Review the science fact orally and learn more about amphibians and reptiles.

Day 4:  Review the science fact orally and learn more about mammals.

Day 5:  Review the science fact orally and learn more about birds.

Break Week (In Between Week 6 and Week 7)

Our community takes a break between weeks 6 and 7. I’m using this time to review some of the previously learned grammar. This is where I’m incorporating the final two invertebrate/ vertebrate worksheets. These worksheets correlate with week 5 and week 6 science sentences, and they’re perfect for reviewing the groups of invertebrates and vertebrates.

Conclusion

I hope you find these worksheets helpful for introducing the major groups of invertebrates and vertebrates to your child! Remember, you are your child’s teacher, and you get to decide what you will study and how you will present the information.

Blessings to you as you homeschool! Let me know in the comments what worksheets you’d like to see created next!
