Luxury laundry detergent is very intriguing, but it’s pricey, so when I heard of Laundry Sauce for the first time, I went on the hunt for some honest Laundry Sauce reviews.
I didn’t find what I was looking for, so five scents and one year later, here is my honest Laundry Sauce review!

Here’s everything you want to know about Laundry Sauce, from the best Laundry Sauce scents to the ingredients (is it toxic?) to how to get sample packs.
Note: This is not a sponsored review, and I bought these products with my own money.

Pros
Cons
Laundry Sauce fragrances have elevated the entire laundering experience for me in a way that I don’t want to give up.

Best Laundry Sauce Scents
I’ve tried all five Laundry Sauce scents and have also had many friends and family members smell them. It’s kind of my favorite hobby when a new person comes over.
Here’s the scoop: the best Laundry Sauce scents are Australian Sandalwood and French Saffron. Australian Sandalwood is very masculine, and French Saffron leans feminine.

For a more neutral fragrance, I’d highly suggest Siberian Pine as my third choice. It’s very fresh and clean and is my personal favorite scent for sheets and towels.
Egyptian Rose is almost entirely rose, so if that’s your vibe, you’ll love it. One of our male friends said it’s the perfect scent for bedsheets – it’s really a lovely fragrance.
Indonesian Patchouli is divisive – some love it, and others think it smells like an elderly person.
Here’s a closer look at each of the five scents.
Australian Sandalwood Scent Review
Australian Sandalwood is my favorite Laundry Sauce scent for men. It’s described as a “dark blend of exotic woods” that is “rich, warm, and mysterious.”

While it’s pretty masculine, I still wash my clothes with it on occasion – it’s just a lovely fragrance. Every person who smells these for me says Australian Sandalwood is the best of them all. It’s also my husband’s favorite.
A clear winner.
French Saffron Scent Review
French Saffron is the newest fragrance, recently released in late-2023. And it quickly became my personal favorite. It’s unique, it’s fresh, and it’s slightly feminine but not overly so.

It’s definitely the type of luxurious scent that has people asking you, what are you wearing?
Little do they know it’s not perfume – it’s your laundry detergent’s captivating scent.
Siberian Pine Scent Review
Siberian Pine is more gender-neutral and has a classic, clean laundry scent with a pleasant twist. It’s subtle enough that it doesn’t give off that overkill, soapy smell that many detergents do.

We have an AirBnb, and I toyed around with the idea of using Laundry Sauce detergents on the sheets and towels. It was a little too expensive to be sustainable, but I would’ve chosen Siberian Pine.
Egyptian Rose Scent Review
The Egyptian Rose scent, with exotic rose, warm nutmeg, and clove spice, definitely leans more feminine. If you’ve ever smelled La Mer skincare products, it’s very similar to that pronounced rose smell.
For a lot of people, you either love or hate it. I enjoy it, but not as much as French Saffron. But we had a close friend visit, and she said this was her favorite of the bunch.
Two of our male friends said this was their second favorite fragrance behind Australian Sandalwood.

My husband doesn’t love this one, so I only use it when I’m doing a load of just my clothing.
Indonesian Patchouli Scent Review
Indonesian Patchouli is divisive. Before I ordered this new scent in mid-2023, I read through all the reviews, and the consensus was this smells like a cheap men’s cologne.
Another reviewer said it smells like Febreeze, and yet another said it smells more like citrus than anything else. Many reviewers said they did not detect any patchouli, even though that’s in the name.
I actually really enjoy the Indonesian Patchouli. It smells fancy and complex to me.
However, most of my friends who have done smell tests for me don’t like it. One said it was horrible, and another said it smelled like a nursing home.
You can view my own TikTok reaction here:
I guess I wouldn’t start here, but it’s worth testing out to see if it’s your vibe.
Laundry Sauce Samples
Laundry Sauce isn’t exactly the cheapest detergent pod on the market, so I’m really excited they’ve finally come out with essentially free sample packs.
The Laundry Sauce sample packs are called Discovery Sets, which include all five scent samples.
It costs $25, and you get a $25 credit toward your next purchase, rendering it essentially free.
You can spray the samples on your skin or clothes and decide which ones are your favorites before you go all-in.
These scents have been created by the brand’s Principal Perfumer and Scent Artist to feel high-end, sophisticated, and unexpectedly exotic.

Game-Changer for Towels and Bedding
You know how towels can sometimes collect a musty smell that won’t go away no matter how many times you wash them?
These pods have been a game-changer for our towels.
Now they always smell clean, which is the main reason I have my husband on board with never buying another laundry detergent again. He loves fresh-smelling towels.

The same goes for sheets and bedding.
I used to be a huge fan of the Diva laundry detergent that everyone raves about. But after using it for just under a year, every time I would wash my sheets, I would wake up with a headache.
I finally figured out that the scent of the laundry soap was too much and causing my headaches. Now, I can’t stand the smell of it. It literally makes me nauseous.
The Laundry Sauce scents are amazing without being too overpowering, and I haven’t once woken up with a headache. I have no complaints from my husband on the other side of the bed, either.

It’s fresh, clean, and luxurious without being too in-your-face.
Is Laundry Sauce Toxic?
I realize the target audience of Laundry Sauce is sophisticated men, but let’s be real here: most of the time, we women are doing the laundry.
As a mother, my biggest concern is whether or not the detergent pods are safe for babies and kids.

Good news: Laundry Sauce contains non-toxic, natural ingredients. It also uses a dye-free and sustainable formula with no harmful chemicals or animal products, no parabens, no phthalates, no additives, no GMOs, and is cruelty-free & vegan.
While they are obviously not fragrance-free like some “baby detergents,” the scents are carefully formulated to minimize skin irritation and allergic reactions, and my kids have never had an issue with them.
If that’s something you’re worried about, Laundry Sauce offers a full refund guarantee if any of their products cause any skin irritation, so you can buy them risk-free.

Laundry Sauce Sustainability
I appreciate that 85% of the ingredients used to make Laundry Sauce detergent pods are biodegradable and break down into compounds that won’t harm the environment.
You also don’t need to throw away a plastic jug – Laundry Sauce pods come in recycled paper boxes produced from 60% post-consumable materials.

The pod encasements themselves are made of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), which is water-soluble and biodegradable.
Laundry Sauce Washing Machine Compatibility
Laundry Sauce detergent pods and dryer sheets are compatible with all washing machines, so they’ll work even if you have an HE (high-efficiency) front-loading or low-water volume wash machine.

If you have a front-loading machine, pop the liquid laundry detergent pod toward the back of the wash drum instead of using the special compartment marked for detergent.
For regular top-loading machines, you have to fill the wash drum up with water first, then place the pod in the water. Then, add your clothes and start the machine.
Laundry Sauce Packaging
The packaging on the Laundry Sauce pods and dryer sheets is very elegant. Before opening the box, you feel like you’re about to get the luxury treatment.
I’m a sucker for good packaging, and these boxes even have a magnetic closure.

Each scent comes in a different colored box, so you can easily pair them with the right dryer sheets if you buy multiple scents at once.
And let’s be honest, pods are so much more convenient.
No dripping bottles to deal with and no measuring spoons. Plus, they reduce plastic waste, so that’s even better!
Laundry Sauce Dryer Sheets Review
The Laundry Sauce dryer sheets aren’t life-changing or anything, but they work well to reduce static. They also ensure our clothes don’t lose the amazing scent they got in the wash, which is the main reason I continue to purchase them.

I tend to go back and forth between these dryer sheets and wool dryer balls. I mainly use wool dryer balls on our kid’s clothing since they don’t really need the extra fragrance. It also saves a little bit of money.
It’s worth noting the scent of the pods gets a little lighter once you’ve finished drying your clothes – especially if you’re a high-heat kind of person. So, I generally dry on a medium or low setting to get the most out of the fragrance.

If you’re someone who’s really into that fresh-out-of-the-dryer smell, definitely throw a dryer sheet into your dry cycle.
That way, you’ll be sure to get the full aromatic effect.
Laundry Sauce Fabric Softener Review
I initially completely discounted Laundry Sauce’s fabric softener because I’ve heard about how horrible it is for your washing machine.
Big thanks to TikTok for educating me about that!
However, I was more intrigued when I read about the benefits of their particular fabric softener formula.
Natural fibers like cotton and wool go through a lot when they’re in the washing machine. The wash cycle frays the fibers of your clothes, which hardens as they dry. That’s why your clothes may end up feeling rough.

Fabric softener that’s formulated well and is used correctly has the following benefits:
- Makes your clothes last longer: the softener safeguards fabric integrity, maintaining color vibrancy and preventing pilling or stretching, thus extending the life of your clothes.
- Makes your clothes softer: their advanced formula penetrates and conditions fibers, giving your fabrics a plush, soft-to-touch feel.
- Reduces wrinkles: this formula smoothes and relaxes fiber, helping your clothes come out of the wash wrinkle-free.
I’ll be honest here and say I mainly use the fabric softener because it smells so darn good and imparts additional scent onto my clothes.
Is it a must-have from Laundry Sauce? Nah, I don’t think so.
But is it nice to have? For sure.
For what it’s worth, many of the Laundry Sauce reviews for this product say it’s particularly good for making towels fluffy.
Laundry Sauce Scent Booster Review
I honestly laughed a little when I saw that Laundry Sauce added scent boosters to its repertoire.

The detergent pods don’t need any boosting, in my opinion. They pack so much fragrance in them already.
The only time I use the scent boosters is when I have a particularly musty load of towels or when I’ve forgotten to switch the laundry from the washer to the dryer.
It gives an extra kick, but 95% of the time, the scent booster is simply not needed.
Also, I read through many Laundry Sauce reviews, and for people that use them with every load, they say you don’t get enough for the price.
Laundry Sauce Candles Review
The Laundry Sauce candles are certainly luxurious. I got the French Saffron as it’s my favorite scent, and it made our whole smell like laundry day in the best way.

It’s a very weighty candle, and yes, it was an enjoyable experience.
However, I polled several people and asked them how much they thought it cost. One person said $30, and my husband, who is notorious for over-guessing, said $45.

This candle is a hefty $69. Ouch.
While it’s a lovely candle, it’s not worth the designer price tag, in my opinion. It also tends to burn unevenly, which is unacceptable for a candle at this price point.

Laundry Sauce vs Tide Pods vs Hotel Collection
Tide pods aren’t luxury detergent pods, but they are probably the most popular pods on the market, so I included them in this comparison.
A more apt comparison is Laundry Sauce vs Hotel Collection, as they are both premium detergent pods.
It’s easy to see why Laundry Sauce comes out on top. Which scents you like is subjective, but I did not like either of the Hotel Collection scents. They are very faint and nowhere near as appealing as the Laundry Sauce ones.
Tide pods are definitely great when it comes to price, but the ingredients are pretty suspect, and many of them have been linked to hormonal issues and even cancer.

Is Laundry Sauce Worth It?
Laundry Sauce detergent pods are 100% worth it. I’ve been using them exclusively for over a year at this point and have no intentions of going back.
They’re a little pricey at $1 per load, but you can use my Laundry Sauce discount code THETWOMAMABEARS to take 15% off.

On top of that, you can join the Laundry Sauce Rewards program and earn points.
You can redeem those points for money off future orders. I just got $40 off by redeeming my rewards points.

Side note – am I the only one who noticed the irony of 69 pods for $69? Are they trying to be saucy?
Anyway, what you get is 100% luxury. And now that I’ve gone there, there is no going back.
Frequently Asked Questions
Laundry Sauce is a luxury laundry detergent brand created to make doing laundry a bit more sophisticated and enjoyable. They offer five amazing fragrances in detergent pods and dryer sheets.
Laundry Sauce currently offers five different luxurious scents: Australian Sandalwood, French Saffron, Siberian Pine, Egyptian Rose, and Indonesian Patchouli.

Yes, 85% of the ingredients in Laundry Sauce are biodegradable and break down into compounds that won’t harm the environment. Their scent ingredients are blended using natural ingredients that contain no harmful chemicals or animal products, no parabens, no phthalates, no additives, no GMOs, and they are cruelty-free & vegan.
Only one pod is needed for a full or medium-sized load of laundry. The pods are 22ml, so they are larger than the standard laundry pod. For extra-large loads, or if you prefer a stronger scent, two pods can be used.
Laundry Sauce does not list essential oils in its ingredient list. All of the good smells come from fragrance.
Laundry Sauce detergent pods alone likely won’t remove red wine stains, but they certainly help. If you spill red wine on your clothes, cover it with salt. Then, pour white vinegar on it to neutralize the red pigments. Blot it with a clean towel. Rinse under cold water and repeat until the stain is gone. Run a normal wash cycle with cold water and a Laundry Sauce detergent pod.
Unfortunately, you can’t buy Laundry Sauce at the grocery store. You can buy it on the Laundry Sauce website or Amazon.
Conclusion
Laundry Sauce laundry detergent pods are a staple in our home, and I highly recommend them to our family and friends.

Just be warned – once you try these products, you might find it hard to go back to your old detergent and mundane scents.
So don’t buy them unless you’re prepared to be committed to expensive laundry detergent for the rest of your life. (Kidding, but also serious.)
