Laundry Sauce is a company that makes luxury laundry pods and dryer sheets that claim to have bold, lush scents. I thought I would give them a go. I have to be honest, when I saw the price, my thought was there’s no way they could be that good.

So, I purchased Laundry Sauce detergent pods about 6 months ago and have been testing them ever since.
I really wanted to hate these because I can be cheap when it comes to household supplies. But I also love amazing smells. Let’s see if these high-end laundry pods are actually worth it.
Note: This is not a sponsored review, and I bought these products with my own money.

The Laundry Sauce Story
Laundry Sauce was created by three men that wanted to turn the mundane task of doing laundry into something sophisticated and confidence-boosting.
So they went out on a limb and created a luxury product that was, at first, largely marketed to men as an easy way to get great-smelling laundry and get women on board as well.
They enlisted the help of perfumer and scent artist, Sabine De Tscharner to create their unique fragrances which is really what gives them a leg up compared to others in the space.
The Smell of Luxury
The fragrance of these is their main selling point. They have 4 luxurious scents that will have you smelling, looking, and feeling good, just like the box says.
Laundry Sauce even promotes its product as “the world’s best-smelling laundry detergent,” which, I have to say, is probably true (move aside, Diva).
They smell so good. Not just good, but uniquely amazing. Each scent is like its own little piece of heaven. Almost like perfume or cologne for your clothes.
Which Laundry Sauce Scents Are the Best?
When I bought Laundry Sauce, I really wanted to know which scent was the best. After all, these are expensive! I couldn’t really find anything online, so I want to go through each scent so you can decide which one is best for you.
Australian Sandalwood
My personal favorite scent is Australian Sandalwood. Their packaging describes this scent as a “dark blend of exotic woods” that is “rich, warm, and mysterious.”

It’s got a bit more of a masculine vibe to it, but I wouldn’t say that it smells manly. I use it on all of my family’s clothes because it is just a really lovely scent. It’s also my husband’s favorite!
If you’re going to try out Laundry Sauce for the first time, Australian Sandalwood is definitely the scent to get.
Siberian Pine
Siberian Pine is more gender-neutral and has a classic, clean laundry scent with a pleasant twist. It’s subtle enough to where it doesn’t give off that overkill soapy smell that a lot of detergents do.

It gives hints of “crisp juniper, cool geranium, frozen oakmoss, and an ethereal touch of white mint.”
If I was buying these as a gift for someone and had no idea what scents they liked, I’d probably go for this one. It’s not overtly feminine or masculine – it’s a good-for-everyone scent.
Egyptian Rose
The Egyptian Rose scent, with exotic rose, warm nutmeg, and clove spice, definitely leans more on the feminine side.

When you smell the pod, it has a strong rose scent, almost like a high-end skin care product, but once you wash your clothes with it, the scent settles down to a really nice, subtle feminine smell.
My husband doesn’t love this one, so I only use it when I’m doing a load of just my clothing.
Indonesian Patchouli
UPDATE: I ordered the Indonesian Patchouli in June 2023 and OMG it smells amazing! It may even be my very favorite scent. It smells like a rich man’s cologne. It’s beautiful. I don’t know what the negative comments are about.
You can view my TikTok reaction here:
I haven’t tried the Indonesian Patchouli scent yet, as it was only recently released. It has blue eucalyptus, lavender, and wild water mint which sounds delightful and refreshing.
That said, I read reviews on this scent, and it sounds like the consensus is this smells like a cheap men’s cologne. Another reviewer said it smells like Febreeze, and yet another said it smells more like citrus than anything else. Many reviewers said they did not detect any patchouli, even though that’s in the name.
If you’re trying Laundry Sauce for the first time, I would suggest choosing one of the other three scents!
Game-Changer for Towels and Bedding
Laundry Sauce works wonders on towels. Do you know how towels can sometimes collect a musty smell that won’t go away no matter how many times you wash them?
These pods have been a game-changer for our towels.
Now they always smell lavishly clean, which is the main reason I have my husband on board with never buying another laundry detergent again. He loves fresh-smelling towels.

The same goes for sheets and bedding.
I used to be a huge fan of the Diva laundry detergent that everyone raves about. But after using it for just under a year, every time I would wash my sheets, I would wake up with a headache.
I finally figured out that the scent of the laundry soap was too much and causing my headaches. Now, I can’t stand the smell of it. It literally makes me nauseous.
The Laundry Sauce scents are amazingly delightful without being too overpowering, and I haven’t once woken up with a headache. No complaints from my husband on the other side of the bed either.
It’s fresh, clean, and luxurious without being too in-your-face.
Larger Pods = More Cleaning Power
The scent isn’t the only thing I like about Laundry Sauce. They actually do wash your clothes well and can tackle red wine, grass, and oils, which is essential if you’re doing laundry for a whole family like me.
I feel like with so many other laundry pods, you have to throw in several pods for just one load. While you think your box may last you a while, it’s always a bit deceiving.
Laundry Sauce’s pods are 22ml, which is larger than the standard laundry pod. You don’t have to throw in a bunch of extra pods or worry about having to rewash. I’ve actually never had to use more than one pod.

For extra-large loads, or if you prefer your laundry to come out with a stronger scent, you can toss in two pods. But I never have and I do some massive loads sometimes, to be honest!
Dye-free & Sustainable Formula
I appreciate that Laundry Sauce uses a dye-free and sustainable formula. Especially because I use them for my whole family’s laundry, including my kids’.
Artificial dyes don’t have anything to do with cleaning your clothes, yet they seem to be in so many laundry detergents and household cleaning items. Laundry Sauce leaves them out.
Their scent ingredients are responsibly sourced which supports local communities. They are blended using natural ingredients that contain no harmful chemicals or animal products, no parabens, no phthalates, no additives, no GMOs, and are cruelty-free & vegan.
Plus, 85% of the ingredients used to make the detergent pods are biodegradable and break down into compounds that won’t harm the environment, so my conscience can feel good about using them.
While they are obviously not fragrance-free like some “baby detergents,” the scents are carefully formulated to minimize skin irritation and allergic reactions, and my kids have never had an issue with them.
If that’s something you are worried about though, Laundry Sauce offers a full refund guarantee if any of their products cause any kind of skin irritation, so you can buy them risk-free.
Washing Machine Compatibility
The detergent pods and dryer sheets are compatible with all washing machines, so they’ll work even if you have an HE (high-efficiency) front-loading or low-water volume wash machine.

If you have a front-loading machine, just pop the liquid laundry detergent pod toward the back of the wash drum, instead of using the special compartment marked for detergent.
For regular top-loading machines, you have to fill the wash drum up with water first, then place the pod in the water. Then, just add your clothes and start the machine.
Packaging and Convenience
The packaging on the Laundry Sauce pods and dryer sheets is very elegant, so even before you open the box you feel like you are about to get the luxury treatment. I’m a sucker for good packaging, and these boxes even have a magnetic closure.

Each scent comes in a different colored box so you can easily pair them with the right dryer sheets if you buy multiple scents at once.
The pod encasements themselves are made of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) which is water-soluble and biodegradable.
And let’s be honest, pods are so much more convenient. No dripping bottles to deal with and no measuring spoons. Plus, they reduce plastic waste, so, even better!
The Dryer Sheets
I’m a fan of using dryer sheets for three main reasons:
- Softer clothing
- Added scent
- Less static
These dryer sheets are softer than the typical ones you buy from the store. They make our clothes, towels, and sheets feel super soft and cozy, and keep them smelling heavenly for even longer.

They also work wonders against pet hair and lint by reducing static electricity that accumulates during your dry cycle, but that’s just an added bonus for me.
Using Laundry Sauce, I’ve done laundry loads both with and without the dryer sheets, and both ways are great. When not using dryer sheets, I use wool dryer balls, which I also enjoy.
It’s worth noting that the scent of the pods does get a bit lighter once you’ve finished drying your clothes – especially if you’re a high-heat kind of person. So, in general, I usually dry on a medium or low setting to get the most out of the fragrance.
Make sure to use the same scent that you used for the wash cycle so that you don’t mix up the fragrances.

So, if you’re someone who is really into that fresh-out-of-the-dryer smell or who always adds fabric softener to your loads, definitely throw a dryer sheet into your dry cycle. That way, you’ll be sure to get the full aromatic effect.
Are They Worth the Price?
Ok, so it’s not a surprise that these are on the expensive side. One pack of 69 laundry pods is $69 which means they are roughly $1 per load.

Side note – am I the only one that noticed the irony of 69 pods for $69? Are they trying to be saucy?
The price drops down to $58.65 per box (or $.85 per load) if you sign up for their subscription model. You can choose every 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 months.
If you just want to try a box without signing up for a subscription, you can use code MAMABEAR to get 15% off.
In any case, these pods are no doubt on the pricey side.
Honestly, when I first bought them, I bought them as a gift for my in-laws who are the type of people who appreciate a quality product. But I thought that they would be a one-time purchase that would no way be worth the price.
What you get is 100% luxury. And now that I’ve gone there, there is no going back.
