Steel cut oats can take a long time to cook, but when you use the Instant Pot, you don’t have to babysit it. Just put your ingredients in the pot, close the lid, and go about your morning.
Adding diced apple and cinnamon take this oatmeal over the top. And my kids love it!

Instant Pot Apple Pie Steel Cut Oatmeal
Steel cut oats can take a long time to cook, but when you use the Instant Pot, you don’t have to babysit it. Just put your ingredients in the pot, close the lid, and go about your morning.
Equipment
- Instant Pot
Ingredients
- 1 cup steel-cut oats
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 chopped apple
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- A sprinkle of nutmeg
Instructions
- Put all ingredients in the Instant Pot, stir, and close the lid. Seal the vent and set your timer to 5 minutes (High Pressure).
- When the timer goes off, let the pressure naturally release (takes about 10 minutes), and enjoy!
Notes
You can also add sweeteners like honey or maple syrup if you want it to be sweet.
Also, be sure you use real steel-cut oats. Quaker has a product labeled steel cut oats but it will burn in this recipe because it has been processed.
